The Year 2000 was a starting of a new decade and new millennium. Millions of Americans held their breaths and watched as the clocks wind down to midnight to see what computer glitches would occur. Lucky for Americans, nothing indubitably newsworthy transpired so it looked like the decade was off to a roaring. Boy that was an understatement. Sports lighting décor also transitioned into the new millennium.

The decade of the 2000s, turned out to be disastrous for many Americans as several tragedies occurred. It started on 9/11/2001 with the attacks on the United States, most notably in New York City, continued with Wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and with Hurricane Katrina which devastated the City of New Orleans. And as in the past, Americans turned to the sporting world and its athletes for comfort and to heal and for entertainment that took their minds off of their real world problems.

Sports fans also had to examine some adversities as more athletes using drugs, cheating and breaking the law. The most notable athlete that made the news for the wrong infer was golf great, Tiger Woods, who admitted cheated on his wife and decided to take a time-out from golf.
